When it’s time to play Hot Cross Buns, use this Jam Pack to add some composition and improvisation.
Composition Handout
In addition to the improvisation exercise, the activity also includes a composition handout so that student can experiment with writing their own melodies.
Combine the note banks from the improvisation handout with the rhythms in the composition handout.
Tips and Tricks
In general, for this activity, it’s okay for the students to make short rhythms that might not fit into a particular meter. The goal is to experiment with writing out some notes and try to play them back.
Consider having students write melodies and then see if a different student can perform and interpret what they wrote.
